Oh for fuck’s sake…
Let me preface this with I like EDM music. We listen to quite a bit of it here in the office and I even probably like a Diplo song here and there. My name is Wes, his middle name is Wes, so we got that, whatever… this shit is getting out of control.
Diplo, who’s operating under he actual name Thomas Wesley for his “country project,” just dropped the “first of several forthcoming country releases.” Featuring Cam, the new song is called “So Long.” Sure, it has Cam singing on it, and some fiddle-ish sounds, but nothing about it is country whatsoever, and not that I expected it to be, but please, for the love of God, do not call this country music. It’s not. Country-inspired? Maybe.
Diplo will also be performing at Stagecoach this weekend, which is all well and good. Don’t mind a DJ playing the afterparty, but I swear to God if they start trying to push this on country radio I’m gonna quit the business. Lil Nas X, Diplo, let’s just everyone who puts on flannel and a cowboy hat be a country artist these days.
I mean, just wait until you see this new Instagram video…
I’m seriously asking… is this a joke? Somebody on his team sat in a room and said, “Hey, I have an idea. Let’s put Diplo in a flannel with a camo hat, grow out that mullet, give him a Budweiser and a koozie, let him play with some horses and fumble some chicken eggs… you know, do what real country folks do.”
And, they all agreed that it was a good idea and then spent money to make that shit you just watched. What fucking world are we living in?
