When you have talents like Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires and Maren Morris one room, magic is guaranteed to happen.
Enter The Highwomen.
“The whole idea started with Amanda Shires,” Carlile stated in an Apple Music conversation with Maren Morris. “Like we were basically hanging out and we got to know each other, became fast friends, fell in love, and she said we should start like a political movement, but then maybe we shouldn’t, maybe we should start a musical movement.”
She went on to say how they wanted to call it the The Highwomen, inspired by The Highwaymen, however, using the term “high” to mean exalted, not high.
The project will also feature songs from Natalie Hemby, Lori McKenna, possibly Miranda Lambert, Janelle Monáe, and Sheryl Crow, along with production work from Dave Cobb, and guitar playing from Shires’ husband Jason Isbell.
