Just a few days after her 101st birthday, Bertha Vickers was celebrating the same way she always does… in her hunting blind. The Mississippi native had a string of bad luck in the days before, missing a few opportunities, but when this big ol’ doe came strolling through, Bertha jumped on her chance.
“I decided to wait for a bigger one,” Vickers tells the Clarion Ledger. “Before long, a bigger doe came out and I shot.
“Then I saw two deer on the ground. It shot plum through both of them. They both dropped right there. They didn’t take another step. I knew it was back there, but I didn’t realize it was that close to her where it could get shot.”
An accident maybe, but still, at 101 years old, harvesting two deer with one shot is pretty damn impressive.
