It’s always incredibly tough to cover a legend like Waylon Jennings and have a somewhat respectable outcome, but this is hands down the best cover of Luckenbach Texas or any Waylon Jennings song I’ve ever heard.
The guy singing it? Sean Rowe, a relatively unknown middle-aged alternative folk singer/songwriter from Troy, New York.
His voice has such an old-time, rough, baritone sound to it, yet it also has a vulnerable feel to it that draws you right in. It ain’t Waylon, but it’s pretty dang good.
An absolutely outstanding cover.
