This is exactly what happens in that Will Smith movie, I Robot.
Will Smith was just working in an Amazon distribution center and the next thing you know, he’s fighting hundreds of robots and saving the world from imminent destruction and the enslavement of the entire human race, or at least I’m pretty sure that’s the plot of I Robot. I haven’t seen in it a while…
Anyway, back to the story.
In what appears to be an obvious rise of the machines, two dozen Amazon workers were treated at five local hospitals, one in critical condition, after a robot ripped open a can of bear repellent. 30 additional workers were treated at the scene, but did not require hospitalization, according to ABC.
The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union issued a necessary statement about the danger that robots pose to human workers.
“Amazon’s automated robots put humans in life-threatening danger today, the effects of which could be catastrophic and the long-term effects for 80 plus workers are unknown,” union president Stuart Appelbaum said in a statement. “The richest company in the world cannot continue to be let off the hook for putting hard working people’s lives at risk. Our union will not back down until Amazon is held accountable for these and so many more dangerous labor practices.”
