One of the highlights was when Chris Stapleton, who took home three awards himself, teamed up with Maren Morris, and Marvis Staples for a soulful performance of “Friendship,” a song he recorded for his most recent album From A Room: Vol. 2. “Friendship” was also recorded by Mavis Staples’ father and The Staple Singers patriarch, Pops Staples, back in 1998 for the posthumous album release Don’t Lose This in 2015.
The trio, who was also joined by Marty Stuart, closed it out with a performance of The Staple Singers 1972 classic “I’ll Take You There,” the family band’s first No. 1 single.
Needless to say, the trio blew the roof off.
Whiskey Riff is the most entertaining country site…ever.
