I remember hearing Brooks & Dunn‘s “Red Dirt Road” for the first time when I was a kid while I was walking on an old Tennessee red dirt road with my Dad. I was immediately captivated by the words of the song, wondering if I’d ever live them out myself.
Fast forward a few years, and I’d say that road has seen the best and worst of me.
It’s seen my younger innocent self, running around barefoot in the summer sun without a care in the world. It’s seen my teenage self, walking down to the lake to fish wondering what life would be like beyond high school. It’s seen me walking down the road with a guy I brought home from college and a 6-pack of beer. It’s seen me early in the morning walking with a bible in one hand and my journal in another. It’s seen my heartbreak, my confusion, my rock-bottom. It’s seen my fight, my come to Jesus moments, and my never give up attitude. That red dirt road has seen me for who I really am my whole life. For that, I am thankful for the simple things in life like red dirt roads.
Thank you, Brooks & Dunn for giving me the anthem to my life and so many others.
