George Strait Passed On “Tennessee Whiskey.” Thank God

Don’t get me wrong, George Strait is an all-time favorite of mine, but “Tennessee Whiskey” is what gave us Chris Stapleton and I’ll take that any day.

During a pre-show Q & A, Strait admitted that Dean Dillon came to him with “Tennessee Whiskey” over 30 years ago, but he declined to record it himself. George Jones went on to make it into a hit single and, of course, Chris Stapleton turned it into a 2017 ACM Song of the Year nominee.

Thank God he did. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have this.
