Brantley Gilbert Shares The 5 Songs That Inspire Him

Even some of country music’s biggest stars have some favorite songs that might shock you.

Brantley Gilbert is wrapping up his latest album, The Devil Don’t Sleep, but in the meantime, he chatted with Rolling Stone Country about the 5 songs that inspire him., including quite the surprise or two.

2014 Stagecoach California's Country Music Festival - Day 1

Here’s what he had to say.

Corey Smith, “As Angels Cry”

It’s about struggling and talking to God, saying, “I’m going through hard things.” It speaks volumes to me.

Kris Kristofferson, “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down”

Definitely a song I feel like I’ve lived a little bit. I got caught up in the life I was living at the time and was definitely close to that scenario.

Eminem, “Not Afraid”

That dude is incredibly talented. This song makes you puff your chest out, look addiction in the eye and say, “All right, let’s go to war.”

AC/DC, “Back in Black”

I love Eighties rock. When it came to rock, I was always drawn to guitars. When it came to country, I loved the stories.

Lynyrd Skynyrd, “Simple Man”

This sounds like my mom talking to me. It reminds me what kind of a man to be, and at the same time it has those badass guitars.

Whiskey Riff is the most entertaining country site…ever.
