Whiskey Riff’s Official Groundhog Day Song 2016 – Frankie Ballard: “It All Started With A Beer”

A man playing a guitar

Fun fact about Groundhog Day, it all started with a beer.

The first documented American reference to Groundhog Day can be found in a diary entry, dated February 4, 1841, of Morgantown, Pennsylvania, storekeeper James Morris:

Last Tuesday, the 2nd, was Candlemas day, the day on which, according to the Germans, the Groundhog peeps out of his winter quarters and finds a frosty lager. If he so chooses to decline a taste of the delightful beverage, he pops back for another six weeks of Winter, but if he shall stay out and drink the frothy brew, the weather is to be moderate and Spring is near.

True story.

It, indeed, all started with a beer.
