71-year old Scott Swift throwing haymakers? Not gonna lie, I’m impressed.

Apparently the father of pop superstar Taylor Swift is under investigation by New South Wales police after an altercation between Papa Swift and paparazzi photographer Ben McDonald during Taylor’s recent run of shows in Australia.

The police said in a statement on the incident:

“A 71-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 51-year-old man at Neutral Bay Wharf about 2:30 a.m. (Tuesday 27 February 2024), before leaving the location.

The younger man reported the incident and inquiries are now underway by officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command. The man did not require medical treatment.”

In video of the incident recorded by McDonald, Taylor can be seen walking with an umbrella over her head as her father holds her hand and guides her towards a vehicle.

Scott can be seen briefly throwing up the middle finger towards photographers, and a security guard opens an umbrella to attempt to block the paparazzi from taking photos of the pop star.

As the reach the vehicle, somebody says, “Don’t touch my umbrella.” The camera then turns sideways as somebody else says, “Oh really?” and another voice can be heard saying, “That wasn’t me. It wasn’t me.”

According to McDonald, it was Scott Swift that threw the punch as Taylor was getting into her car:

“He punched me in the chops. It was a shock. That’s never happened to me in 26 years.”

But (not surprisingly), Taylor’s team has a different story about the incident, releasing a statement disputing McDonald’s version of events:

“Two individuals were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel, and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water.”

Taylor Swift and her team were getting off of a super yacht at the time of the incident, which McDonald reported to the police after the alleged assault. And while the police wouldn’t confirm that Scott Swift was the subject of their investigation, they acknowledged all of the media coverage surrounding the incident:

“We don’t confirm names of victims and offenders of crimes, but if every other news agency in the world is using those names, you wouldn’t be wrong.”

The pop superstar recently completed a run of four shows at Accor Stadium in Sydney. And while much of the attention was on Taylor’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who flew to Australia for one of the shows, Papa Swift was also seen handing out sandwiches to concertgoers.
