Nicholas Jamerson Covers Charles Wesley Godwin’s “Jesse”

There are tons of incredible artists coming out of Appalachia right now, but there aren’t many better than Nicholas Jamerson and Charles Wesley Godwin.

Godwin, hailing from Morgantown, West Virginia, is one of the hottest artists in all of country music right now. He’s been responsible for some of the best music in the genre for several years now, but having recently signed to Big Loud, where he is label mates with the likes of Morgan Wallen and Ernest, and on the heels of Family Ties, his biggest record to date, Godwin is crossing into the next stage of his career as a budding superstar.

Along with his all star band the Allegheny High, Godwin has been road dogging all year long, selling out bigger and bigger venues all across the country, and living out the all gas no brakes mantra at this point in his career, he’s still got over 20 dates left on the schedule to close out a massive 2023.

He’s joined by some pretty awesome support for these shows, including Jamerson for back to back shows at the Mercury Ballroom in Louisville, KY next week. Everybody should be familiar with Jamerson by now, but in case you are not, the pride of Prestonsburg, Kentucky has long been a staple on the Appalachian music scene and is highly regarded as a top tier songwriter.

An accomplished solo artist, Jamerson is well known too as one half of the legendary Kentucky duo Sundy Best, alongside Kristofer Lee Bentley, who released their highly anticipated comeback album Feel Good Country earlier this year following a nearly six year hiatus.

With an even better solo album titled Peace Mountain that dropped a couple months later, which included a feature from Godwin on the title track, Jamerson is as prolific of a songwriter as they come. His lengthy catalog is proof, but despite the high quantity of songs over the years, there has never been the slightest bit of sacrifice in quality, an impressive feat in its own right.

In anticipation of their shows together, Jamerson recently took to Instagram to share a pretty cool clip of himself covering Godwin’s hit “Jesse.”

Check it out here:

“Getting excited for these shows with the dude Charles Wesley Godwin next week in Louisville October 11 & 12 (sold out) at Mercury Ballroom. This is his song ‘Jesse.’”

And a live version of “Jesse” performed by Charles Wesley Godwin and the Allegheny High for reference:

Jamerson and Godwin make up quite the dynamic duo, and it’d be pretty cool if they were to team up for a live performance of their recent collaboration “Peace Mountain,” too.

Whether that happens or not, seeing both of these artists separately is well worth it, but if you haven’t seen Godwin and the Allegheny High play yet, then you’re in for a real treat.
