Am I dreaming?
According to the Tennessean, Nashville publicist Kirt Webster, who stepped away from his position representing numerous country music stars, has been named the 2017 PR People Awards publicist of the year. The announcement was this week at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., despite the fact that Webster has 22 allegations of sexual harassment and assault this year.
However, this morning, PR News has removed Nashville music industry publicist Kirt Webster’s name from its website listing him as winner of a “publicist of the year” award. PR News had cited Webster’s accomplishments in a now-deleted lengthy post explaining his award, which said, in part: “no other publicist this year excelled as a brand advocate and crafted more positive media coverage than Kirt Webster.”
Are you fucking kidding me? With everything that is going on in the news right now and, just this morning, the “silence breakers” being named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year, how do you go ahead and name the Harvey Weinstein of Nashville PR as the Publicist of the Year? It should have read, “no other publicist has excelled as a sexual predator and crafted more despicable media coverage than Kirt Webster.
Yeah, they backtracked once news got out about a sexual predator winning an award, who cares? PR News is a joke.
Former Webster associate Zach Farnum said, “Kirt Webster receiving this award is not only a slap in the face to all of the good, moral publicists in our profession, but also to the many victims like myself who suffered through his torment. I will not participate in or associate with this organization until they correct and apologize for this error.”
Next up, Comedian of the Year: Louis C.K.
